Frequently Asked Questions:

What is streetdance?
Street dance is an umbrella term used to describe dance styles that evolved outside of dance studios at more everyday spaces such as streets, school yards and nightclubs. They're often improvisational and social in nature, encouraging interaction and contact with the spectators and the other dancers.

Street dance is also commonly used specifically for the many hip hop dances and funk dance styles that began appearing in the United States in the 1970s, and are still alive and evolving within the hip hop culture of today, such as breakdance, popping, locking, hip hop new style and house dance. These dances are popular on all levels, as a form of exercise, an artform, or for competition, and are today practiced both at dance studios and more freely arranged spaces. Some schools use street dance as a form of physical education.

What Do I Wear?
Any track suit or baggy trousers and T-Shirt is perfect!

Can anyone do it?
YES! You’ll get the most out of your street class if you pay close attention to two things: your instructor and the beat of the music. With these as your guides, you can hardly go wrong. But if ever you feel discouraged, staying positive is key. Street dance is a set of steps, attitudes, and gestures unto itself. Because it makes different demands upon the body than classical jazz or ballet, it sometimes takes several classes for dancers to become used to the dynamics of this new dance form. All newcomers need to exhibit patience and persistence. You might find yourself feeling awkward or confused. But failing to give up means that you will have progressed by the end of each and every class. And as street dance can be one of the most fun and rewarding dance forms, you’ll probably find that your mood is as high as your energy.
